OVERVIEW

"HOUSING AFRICA" was an international investment conference focusing on the housing sector in Africa that was held May 2-4, 2006 in Cape Town, South Africa. This was a unique opportunity to hear from leading housing experts, U.S. businesses and financial institutions actively investing in the housing sector, legal experts, private equity fund managers, and U.S. and African senior government officials. The conference also included local businesses and banks engaged in the housing sector and provide opportunities for facilitating key private sector investment partnerships with U.S. businesses planning to invest in the sub-Saharan housing sector.

The conference agenda included sessions highlighting current housing initiatives, construction, land development, legal issues, infrastructure, mortgage financing, capital markets and private equity investment. The conference was of particular interest to companies and financial institutions in the United States and other countries looking for investment opportunities in the housing sector. It was also of interest to small and medium-sized enterprises, larger companies and financial institutions in the region looking for investors and joint venture partners.

"HOUSING AFRICA" was sponsored by the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), the primary U.S. government agency responsible for supporting U.S. private sector investment in the developing world through its finance and insurance programs. OPIC's mission is to assist the flow of investment to developing countries and encourage the growth of emerging economies. Recognizing the important role that housing plays in fostering economic development, OPIC is committed to expanding the availability of housing and the development of mortgage markets worldwide.
