In an effort to further prepare Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) and the Indian Ocean tsunami-affected economies for future natural disasters and other hazards through the development of modern warning systems and reponse capabilities, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA) organized a workshop in partnership with Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) forum and in cooperation with other U.S. government organizations.
This educational and technical workshop brought together emergency preparedness and disaster management experts from the United States government, international organizations and the private sector with delegates and decision makers representing national emergency and disaster planning organizations and national meteorological, hydrological and tsunami operational organizations from APEC to Indian Ocean tsunami-affected economies to share resources, experiences and technologies. The workshop advances APEC's Strategy on Response to and Preparedness for Emergency and Natural Disaster by strengthening the capacity of the region through information sharing to prepare for disasters.
